Coverage on NBC begins at 12 noon eastern time with a Metropolitan Division matchup between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Washington Capitals in Washington.
The day then moves west for the Tim Horton's NHL Heritage Classic outdoor game between the host Vancouver Canucks and the Ottawa Senators at BC Place in Vancouver at 4:00 PM, which we must point out is not in the United States and may not even be outdoors!
BC Place is a retractable roof stadium and, while the plan is to have the roof open if at all possible, weather conditions may dictate the roof be closed in the event of either rain or excessive sunlight causing glare or soft ice issues.
That said, the game will be the most visually interesting of the day as the teams will be wearing throwback "sweaters" in recognition of the 1915 Stanley Cup Finals between the Cyclone Taylor-led Vancouver Millionaires and the original Ottawa Senators.
Vancouver will be wearing their Vancouver Millionaires throwbacks, which they have worn once before during a game on March 16, 2013.
The Senators will be sporting a cream version of their awesome black heritage alternate jerseys, which draws heavily from the original Senators barberpole jerseys.
This will be the 13th outdoor game in recent NHL history, with the first being the first Heritage Classic back on November of 2003 in Edmonton. Since that time, six Winter Classics and a second Heritage Classic have been held before the four Stadium Series games took place this season, with the last one being last night's Chicago Blackhawks vs. Pittsburgh Penguins game.
With the Canadian portion of Hockey Day in America completed, NBCSN will air an Original Six matchup between the New York Rangers and the Boston Bruins at 7:30 from Madison Square Garden in Manhattan to close out the day.
