It Couldn't Happen to a Nicer Guy
Today's marks the one year anniversary of one of the greatest moments in hockey, The Day Matt Cooke Got What Was Coming to Him™.
Having had the audacity to actually check NHL poster boy Sidney Crosby not once, but twice, earlier in the game, Penguins teammate Matt Cooke took it upon himself to challenge NHL rookie Evander Kane for his egregious transgressions.
Perhaps unknown to Cooke, Kane just happens to be named after none other than the only five time Heavyweight Champion of the World, boxer Evander Holyfield.
"He challenged me and approached me and he hasn't done that again this year," Kane said in an interview in March of 2011.
The results were glorious and long overdue for a player who disrespects other players more than anyone else in the league at a level matched only by Jarkko Ruutu.
We could watch this all day long, and actually have, and hope you do to.
Perhaps next time Cooke will think twice. Then again, probably not.
